LAKE ARROWHEAD, Calif., Oct. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- San Bernardino Mountain Communities Realtor Jim Newcomb, of Coldwell Banker Sky Ridge Realty, and three Boy Scout Troops, as well as one Cub Scout Pack, are hosting an annual food drive on Saturday, October 13, to benefit Operation Provider. "We will be on hand at the mountain's three main grocery stores," said Newcomb, who is also Assistant District Commissioner of the Boy Scouts. "We will be standing in front of the stores from 9 a.m. to about 4 p.m. collecting non-perishable items, as well as cash or gift cards to benefit Operation Provider."
Operation Provider is the largest food bank in the San Bernardino mountains and has served over 250,000 boxes of weekly groceries since opening in 1989. Operation Provider fills tables and hearts by providing food, clothing, utility assistance, referrals, emergency assistance, holiday meals, a warm smile, and a shoulder to cry on.
"When I was the local Scoutmaster, we started collecting food as a service project for our Scouts. This will be the 18th year we have done the food drive," noted Newcomb. "We have collected about 3,000 pounds of food each year, as well as over $1,000 to help the food bank during the holiday months."
In November, Newcomb will also be conducting an annual wine auction with the Arrowhead Wine Enthusiasts group. Newcomb is a sommelier and president of the local wine club. Newcomb has conducted this auction for about 15 years. The proceeds are split up among a couple different local charities, but Operation Provider has been one of the consistent recipients of the proceeds.
"We are a tight knit mountain community. We help one another when we can. Through the Boy Scouts, it gives our youth members an opportunity to give back to and serve the local community," concluded Newcomb.
