ELIZABETH, N.J., June 1, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Portugal Day Parade in Elizabeth is recognized as the one of oldest running Portuguese parades in the state of New Jersey. This outdoor festival recognizes the Portuguese community by gathering thousands of attendees and having different organizations, clubs, and institutions pridefully march down the streets of Elizabeth in colorful decorated floats, traditional costumes and clothing, and of course, parading to the beats of the traditional folkloric music of Portugal. Portugal Day is an anticipated event because of its commitment to demonstrate Portuguese heritage within American diverse culture.
Since 1978, the Portugal Day Committee has diligently planned and organized the grand parade that brings in thousands of families and friends together. The outdoor event welcomes the participation of visiting folkloric dance groups, "Ranchos", and many other cultural organizations. Brings together Portuguese organizations from across New Jersey, and even some are even coming from as far as Massachusetts. The parade will follow its annual traditional route by "going down Elizabeth Avenue, turning left on South Broad Street, then making another left on Grove Street to finish the Parade at the Instructive Portuguese Social Club located on the corner of Route 1 & 9 South and Grove Street in the city of Elizabeth, New Jersey." This year, the parade will begin at Union Square (in front of Carloto's Bakery) at 2:00 PM. For more information about Portugal Day, please visit http://www.elizabethportugalday.com
