After successfully launching bamboo toilet paper in 2019, Reel Bamboo has unveiled the expansion to its product line: bamboo paper towels. Designed with sustainability in mind, these rolls include no plastic in the wrapping or packaging, are free of inks, dyes, and BPA, and do not use any trees. This effort has helped reduce non-recyclable waste including parts of trees, and promotes the growth of efficient and beneficial bamboo. These paper towels are currently available for a box of 12 rolls with 140 sheets each for $39.99 per box, along with a $5 shipping fee for non-subscribers.
Bamboo generates much softer paper products compared to those generated from wood fiber or recycled paper, and with its natural composition being very durable, it leads to more durable paper towels. Not only that, it is the fastest growing plant on earth, with the ability to grow just 3 feet in 24 hours, and uses 30% less water than hardwood trees. Currently, the equivalent of 27,000 trees is flushed or sent to a landfill daily, and some parts of those trees are non-recyclable. But every part of a bamboo sprout is usable or recyclable, and bamboo trees give out 35% more oxygen than other trees, meaning that an acre of bamboo can remove approximately 25 metric tons of CO2 from our atmosphere.
In the two years since its launch, Reel has eliminated more than 130,000 pieces of single use plastic, and saved over 2 million pounds of lumber, along with almost 13.4 million gallons of water. In addition, Reel has partnered with SOIL, an organization working to implement sustainable and cost-effective solutions to the sanitation crisis in Haiti. To date, Reel has helped build over 1,200 toilets in Haiti and provided access to 7300 people on the island nation. Reel is committed to producing products that not only function better than their counterparts, but are more sustainable and environmentally friendly, with materials that are sourced responsibly and packaging that can be wholly composted or recycled. They believe these bamboo paper towels are the next step in that mission, and are excited for customers to have them in their homes.
Reel was co-founded by serial entrepreneurs Livio Bisterzo and Derin Oyekan, and is supported by well-known investors including award-winning actress Jessica Chastain, former NBA star Baron Davis, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, and tennis star Maria Sharapova.
