About the author
Rohan de Soysa has been actively involved in the arts, environmental preservation, photography, and agriculture for many years. An instructor of photography, he became a trustee of the Sapumal Foundation in 1981 and has been chairman since 2011. The Foundation's gallery displays a comprehensive collection of the art of the '43 Group, the first modern art movement in Sri Lanka, housed in a charming setting. From 1992-2012, he served as a committee member, secretary, treasurer and president of the Sri Lanka Natural History Society. In 1985, he bought eighteen acres of secondary forest for his daughter, and today it is a sanctuary area and the first community conservation project in the country.
