Reliance Foundry Announces Scholarship Winner
Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) June 16, 2014 -- Reliance Foundry Co. Ltd., North America’s premier supplier of bollards, bike racks, and custom castings today named Brandon Hill the winner of the first annual “Bollards in My Community” scholarship competition. Originally from Las Vegas, Hill is a student at the University of Utah who will begin his sophomore year of study this fall. The competition’s guidelines asked participants to submit a presentation on how bollards increase safety and improve the aesthetics of a site within their community. Hill’s presentation was submitted in the form of a video and it gives a thorough explanation of the purpose and function of bollards. It contains footage of many different types of bollards and explains how they highlight architecture and communicate traffic routes throughout his home town of Las Vegas. Amazingly, he shot, compiled and edited the entire video presentation on his smart phone. He will be awarded $3000.00 for his efforts and will put the money towards his tuition costs.
“I would like to thank the Reliance Foundry and say that I am very grateful," said Hill. “Going into the next school year I had some financial aid, but was still preparing to take student loans out. With this scholarship I no longer have to do that and I will have my education fully paid for, for the next year.”
The “Bollards in My Community” competition was held as part of Reliance Foundry’s annual scholarship program. Reliance Foundry first began the program in the winter of 2014 as a means of supporting the next generation of urban designers, architects and designers. The bollards in my community scholarship competition asked participants to submit presentations that demonstrate the value that bollards bring to a real site or sites in their community. The competition was open to all students that were enrolled at an accredited university, college or technical school and high school seniors who were planning to attend university in the fall 2014 semester. The guidelines recommended describing how bollards contribute to the safety of the residents of the participant’s neighborhood how it they play a positive role in the site’s aesthetics. Participants were free to submit their story however they felt they could most effectively do so. There were no maximum or minimum word limits and presentations did not even have to be submitted in standard written form. Essays, infographics were all accepted but video submission were the big winners in this year’s competition. Hill’s video took first place and two runner-up prizes of $500.00 were also awarded to participants who submitted video presentations. Close to 100 submissions were received and Reliance Foundry’s management team judge it to be a success.
