Remote Workers in Accounts Payable: A Pipe Dream or The Wave of the Future?
Technology is changing the way we work, in ways never imagined just a few short years ago. One of the many changes includes folks working away from the office. While this has been a popular concept for some time in certain areas, it has long been shunned in areas like accounts payable. Management was concerned that people would shirk their responsibilities and worried about letting documents leave their premises. Guess what? New research, by AP Now, reveals that neither of these concerns are in fact valid.
NEWARK, Del., Dec. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Technology is changing the way we work, in ways never imagined just a few short years ago. One of the many changes includes folks working away from the office. While this has been a popular concept for some time in certain areas, it has long been shunned in areas like accounts payable. Management was concerned that people would shirk their responsibilities and worried about letting documents leave their premises. Guess what? New research reveals that neither of these concerns are in fact valid.
A recent AP Now poll revealed that not only does productivity plummet when accounts payable workers are allowed to work from home, even one day of the week, it increases. "Overwhelmingly, the comments written in by the survey participants show that there are all sorts of benefits that accrue to an organization when it introduces even minor concessions in this regard," says Mary S. Schaeffer, AP Now's founder and publisher.
What's more, not permitting remote working is starting to cost organizations when trying to recruit sought-after candidates in a tight job market. More than a few indicated they had not been able to hire the professional they wanted because their organization had a policy of no remote workers.
So, how popular is remote working for those in the accounts payable profession? "Over one-third of all organizations now permit at least partial remote working in accounts payable," says Schaeffer, "and we expect that number to rise in the next few years."
About AP Now's Remote Workers in AP Poll
The purpose of AP Now's Remote Workers in AP Poll was to determine if there has been a shift in both the perception of and integration of remote workers in the accounts payable function.
