Republic of the Congo Welcomes the 11th All Africa Games
Republic of the Congo (PRWEB) March 06, 2014 -- Republic of the Congo, a Central Africa Region, welcomes the All Africa Games in 2015. The event is event similar to the Olympics in that it is held every four years, but only nations that lie within the African continent are allowed to participate.
This is the eleventh time the event has occurred marking the fiftieth anniversary for the games. The first games were held in 1965 in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo and that is where they are being held again this year. Approximately fifty-four nations will participate in the All Africa Games including Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Comoros, Egypt, Congo, Togo, and many more.
The International Olympic Committee officially recognized the continental multi-sport event, along with the Pan American games and Asian Games. Some of the games include badminton, basketball, chess, football, taekwondo, and swimming.
President Denis Sassou Nguesso says, “I am happy to see the Republic of the Congo host the All Africa Games next year. This is a great opportunity for our country and to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of our games. We are proud to see our nation compete for the gold.”
The games had been through some rough times in the past when technical difficulties postponed the games in Algeria for a year, and when Kenya pushed back the games two years. That is why the timeline for the fiftieth anniversary does not quite line up for the eleventh All Africa Games.
It should be an exciting year for Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo in 2015 as the All Africa Games are an important tradition. Constructions for the Olympic Village has been commenced since 2012.
