New survey shows that 1 in 5 companies scaled back Pride Month participation due to concerns over backlash
SEATTLE, July 13, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ResumeBuilder.com, the premier resource for professional resume templates and career advice, has published a recent survey report that examines the reasons why companies decided to participate or not participate in Pride Month this year. The report also shares insight into the positive and negative consequences of participating in Pride Month. Overall, ResumeBuilder.com research experts surveyed 1,000 company leaders in the United States.
Based on survey results, 81 percent of business leaders say their company did not participate in Pride this year, and 19 percent say their company participated in some way. Among companies that participated, 96 percent say they 'significantly' or 'somewhat' reduced their intended level of participation in Pride Month due to fears of backlash. Among this group, the top reported ways in which they scaled back their Pride Month plans include not providing employee learning opportunities around inclusion, not changing their logo to rainbow colors, and not creating Pride-themed products and marketing campaigns.
Additionally, among companies that participated in Pride, 62 percent say they experienced negative consequences as a result. Of this group, 29 percent say they received 'negative feedback from employees,' 26 percent received 'negative feedback from customers,' and 20 percent experienced 'decreased revenue.' Conversely, 86 percent of companies that participated in Pride say they experienced benefits as a result. Within this group, 54 percent say they received 'positive feedback from customers,' 51 percent received 'positive feedback from employees,' and 37 percent experienced 'increased revenue.'
This survey was commissioned by ResumeBuilder.com and conducted online by the survey platform Pollfish from June 28 to July 2, 2023.
