Rhyming picture book tells a touching story about a boy who learns that life is not all about winning from his pet dog
Diana Duncan's 'Hugo the Winner' is set for a new press campaign this 2022
HONG KONG, July 27, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Children today grow in a competitive society that is fixated on winning. Social media often makes kids think that being the best is everything. In her book, "Hugo the Winner" (published by Partridge Singapore in July 2021), author Diana Duncan teaches young readers the value of sportsmanship and humility.
This rhyming picture book tells the story of Hugo, a boy who excels at sports, schoolwork and making friends. But the trouble with Hugo is that, although he is very good at almost everything, he gets really mad when things do not go his way. When Mum and Dad get him a dog called Barney, they hope he will learn to take things more easily. Their hopes are realized when an accident on a day out teaches Hugo an important lesson about being calm and learning to lose graciously.
"With lots of kids losing out on time spent at school and playing sport because of COVID-19, it is important that children learn to cope with all the challenges modern life throws at them," Duncan states. "Pets are friendly, loving companions who are a real comfort in these challenging times."
When asked what she wants readers to take away from the story, the author responds, "Enjoyment, laughter an appreciation of rhyme and empathy with Hugo, the main character."
