Riot Games Partners with The Trade Group to Launch New Legends of Runeterra Card Game at EGX in London

The Trade Group was responsible for design, installation and onsite support for Riot Games’ 26mx32m stand, featuring Legends of Runeterra game art, 84 gaming stations, live streaming, interactive cue line and more. Legends of Runeterra—a card game tied to Riot’s League of Legends game—was first announced and playable at EGX.

The Trade Group, an award winning, event marketing and creative design firm, was honored to support its long-term client Riot Games for the announcement and launch of Legends of Runeterra, a new card game tied to the mythology and lore of Riot’s popular video game League of Legends. The launch took place at EGX 2019, the United Kingdom’s biggest gaming show.

The Trade Group handled stand design, installation and onsite support for the event. Along with game art created by Riot, the space featured 84 playable gaming stations, four streaming pods, four influencer streaming pods and an interactive cue line. Fans could also enjoy two fun photo opps and giveaways at the stand.

This wasn’t the first time The Trade Group has collaborated with Riot Games at a premier gaming event. According to Neeshu Hajra, VP of Business Development for The Trade Group, “Riot’s been one of our larger gaming clients over the past few years. We handled the giant League of Legends Riftwalk Tour and have assisted them with a number of other campaigns over the years.”

The launch of Legends of Runeterra, along with two other games at EGX, was a historic moment for Riot Games and something The Trade Group was proud to contribute to. Says Hajra, “These were the first major games Riot has launched since League of Legends came out 10 years ago. Nothing has come close to the scope of this announcement. While it’s always a pleasure to work with Riot, we were doubly honored to play a part in such an important campaign,” Hajra says.

Since League of Legends is a very popular and beloved video game, maintaining secrecy prior to the announcement and launch of League of Runeterra was a top concern. As Hajra explains, “Riot always keeps their launches and announcements pretty guarded but the level of secrecy at EGX was at another level. EGX even labeled the stand as ‘secret.’ From pre-show security measures to the way the files were handled to concealing key art and logos onsite seconds after application, we were very diligent to ensure the announcement wouldn’t be leaked.”

It was also very important for Riot to show off the wonderful art of the new game and tie in the mythology and lore of League of Legends. “The stand delivered those creative aspects, while providing a memorable, interactive experience for fans. It was a launch that we were honored to be part of, and we look forward to collaborating with Riot on their future event needs,” Hajra says.
