Rockler introduces New and Improved Jig for Routing Dadoes
Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has introduced an update of its popular Perfect Fit Dado Jig that now includes an integral dust extraction port and uses the actual workpiece to set the cutting width -- keeping the mess to a minimum while producing tight-fitting dadoes.
MEDINA, Minn., Jan. 22, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has introduced an update of its popular Perfect Fit Dado Jig that now includes an integral dust extraction port and uses the actual workpiece to set the cutting width -- keeping the mess to a minimum while producing tight-fitting dadoes.
The new Perfect Fit Dado Jig is the result of a top-to-bottom redesign to make it easier to use and increase its accuracy. It now fits a larger range of clamp guides and other straightedges to guide the router during the cut. In addition, it features a removable router baseplate with hole patterns to fit popular routers that can be rotated and mounted on the jig base to position the router handles comfortably. The jig base includes an adjustable fence that fits over straightedge clamp guides from 2-1/4" to 3-1/2" wide, and it has holes for mounting a spacer block for use with narrower clamp guides.
"The new Perfect Fit Dado Jig solves a couple of key problems for woodworkers," said Dan Wenning, Rockler's senior director of product development. "First, routing dadoes creates a lot of chips and dust, and the built-in dust port allows you to extract almost all of it. Second, varying material thickness can make accurate setup time-consuming and difficult. Because the jig uses the workpiece that will fit into the dado to set the cutting width, you get a precise setup from the start."
Made from reinforced plastic, the jig enables users to cut dadoes from 1/4" to 1" wide in two passes using a router and 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2" diameter straight router bits. Once set up for a particular workpiece thickness and bit diameter, the jig can be used to cut multiple dadoes for that material without adjustment, particularly useful for projects such as bookcases with stationary shelves.
To set the cutting width, the jig base incorporates an adjustable section with a stepped fence. The user puts the workpiece sample on the correct step for the diameter of bit being used, brings the other edge of the fence tight and locks in the setting.
The integral dust port has about a 1-1/2" outside diameter, compatible with Rockler's Dust Right FlexiPort Power Tool Hose Kits, either with the 12' fixed-length hose (51170, sold separately) or the 3'-12' expandable hose (48212, sold separately).
The Rockler Perfect Fit Dado Jig (59385) is priced at $49.99 and is available for purchase exclusively online at http://www.rockler.com or at Rockler Woodworking and Hardware stores nationwide, as well as through the Rockler catalog.
