Rockler Kicks Off Project Season With "Make and Take" Classes
Rockler Woodworking and Hardware stores nationwide will be offering hands-on Make and Take classes throughout October. Make and Take class participants can learn new woodworking skills while handcrafting items for their own use or to give as gifts.
MEDINA, Minn., Sept. 4, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- To jump-start the fall project and gift-making season, Rockler Woodworking and Hardware stores nationwide will be offering hands-on Make and Take classes throughout October. Make and Take class participants can learn new woodworking skills while handcrafting items for their own use or to give as gifts.
Projects include a custom knife; an ice cream scoop, pizza cutter or bottle opener; a cheese board; and a decorative wooden luminary. Participants can sign up online (http://www.rockler.com/makeandtake) or in-store for any or all of the classes, and everyone will leave with a completed project. Plans, overview videos and materials will be available online for those who want to make the projects on their own.
"Make and Take classes are a great way for people of all skill levels to try their hand at woodworking – whether it's their first or their 100th time," said Scott Ekman, Rockler's vice president of marketing. "No experience is necessary to be able to go home with both a completed project and newfound skills."
All Rockler stores will offer the Make and Take classes, with a different project scheduled for each week. Class size will be limited from three to eight participants so there is plenty of one-on-one help available to attendees.
Each class will last approximately three hours and will focus on a single project. The knife-making class focuses on shaping and finishing a custom wood handle/grip to complete a folding knife. Basic wood turning skills are the theme of the ice cream scoop/pizza cutter/bottle opener class, allowing participants to turn and finish a custom wood handle on the lathe to mount to the hardware kit of their choice. The cheese board class will employ basic bandsaw, routing, sanding and finishing techniques to complete the project. Hands-on joinery and scroll saw techniques for decorative cutouts will be used in the wooden luminary class.
The enrollment fee for each class is $35, including materials and supplies, with the exception of the handle turning class, which carries an extra hardware fee depending on the kit selected by the participant.
