Roger Glen Melin Chronicles Hal Schumacher’s Life in New Book
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (PRWEB) June 10, 2015 -- Hal Schumacher significantly impacted the three-time National-League champion New York Giants of the 1930s and played in the inaugural All-Star game in 1933. Author Roger Glen Melin’s new biography, “Hal Schumacher - The Prince of the New York Giants: and the Pride of Dolgeville” (published by Trafford Publishing), takes an in-depth look at this talented yet humble baseball player of yesteryear.
“Prince Hal,” as newspapers dubbed him to complement his teammate nicknamed “King Carl” Hubbell, escaped much of the recognition his counterparts received, despite playing an integral role in the Giants’ success in the ’30s. He kept his interviews short and, rather than toot his own horn, Schumacher chose to make contributions to society through involvement with the Adirondack Bat company and the Little League.
“Society has changed immensely since the time period in which this book took place,” Melin says. “Men played the game of baseball for the fun and the challenge. Players weren’t coddled the way they are today."
This biography takes readers through Schumacher’s life, year by year. It looks at his history before, during and after his playing days, offering valuable insight into a quality baseball pitcher and a quality human being.
