Take a trip back in time to the pivotal issues and events of the late 1960s in “Oh! Those Sixties” (published by AuthorHouse), the historical fiction by Ruth E. Deacon that takes inspiration from a wealth of historical events.
Set on the campus of fictional Waterloo State University located in the Midwest, “Oh! Those Sixties” chronicles the experiences of four college students – two white females, a white male and a black male – and two local high school students, both of whom are black. All six young adults are caught up in the social and political turmoil of the late 1960s and the book raises important questions about race relations during that time period.
Throughout the pages of “Oh! Those Sixties,” characters discuss various issues of the time and how each of them is affected. The Vietnam War, racial and gender equality, drug use and campus sit-ins are just a few of the topics covered in this well-crafted book that shows the need to examine events of the past in order to move toward a better tomorrow.
“The experiences of the 1960s need continued reflection,” Deacon writes. “Improvements in gender and race relations are owed to the period.”
