SACRAMENTO, Calif., Feb. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As part of their continued effort to promote healthy youth development in Sacramento, the Sacramento Kings are partnering with Winward Academy to support an after-school program at Grant Union High School (GUHS). The program provides valuable resources to support high-achieving students in their pursuit of college and career goals.
"Our students are so lucky for this outpouring of support," shared Director GUHS After-School Program Vence Lewis. "They now have the tools and resources to transform their confidence and their future opportunities."
"The Kings are proud to continue the mission of being bigger than basketball and investing in the region's youth," said Kings President of Business Operations John Rinehart. "By providing extra resources and encouraging students to use them frequently, we hope to develop Sacramento's next generation of leaders."
Kings rookie guard Justin James attended a tip-off event on October 29 with the students to get them excited about the importance of education, family and community, share more about his personal journey to the NBA and answer questions from students. Justin also spent time with the students, taking photos and signing autographs.

Dr. Jennifer Winward, the founder and CEO of Winward Academy, also attended the kick-off to get the GUHS students signed up for Winward Academy. Through the learning platform, students have access to all the curriculum and resources needed for their math courses, ACT and SAT college entrance exams and college applications.
"Throughout the school year, we'll continue to work closely with Mr. Lewis to ensure the best outcomes for students," said Winward. "And we're thankful to the Kings for nurturing this partnership to make an impact in their community."
"It's motivating for students to work hard in their academics knowing they have the support of organizations like the Kings and Winward Academy," shared Lewis. "Students with access to Winward Academy are four times more likely to be college-ready in English, Math, Reading and Science. Our students are driven to achieve similar or better results!"
Grant Union High School students who show the most dedication and growth will be rewarded with tickets to Kings games.
