SAE International Announces Two J.D. Power Automotive Engineering Awards

Awards recognize Chevy Blazer and Toyota Avalon for engineering excellence

SAE International announced today that the Chevy Blazer and Toyota Avalon are winners of the J.D. Power 2020 Automotive Engineering Awards. The awards recognize the engineering teams for their excellence in new vehicles and vehicle re-design.

“I’m very pleased to publicly recognize these engineers for the highly rated vehicles they created,” said Doug Betts, president of the automotive division of J.D. Power. “Creating a vehicle is a labor of love for ’car guys’ but it is also incredibly difficult and requires more than two years of non-stop, really intense work.”

The Chevy Blazer wins the J.D. Power Engineering Award for Highest-Rated All-New Vehicle. This award is presented to the engineering team responsible for the highest-rated new entry into the market for the 2019 Model Year. The award, based on consumer evaluations of initial quality and appeal, is for the vehicle introduced for the 2019 Model Year that is furthest ahead of its direct competitors.

The Toyota Avalon wins the J.D. Power Engineering Award for Highest-Rated Vehicle Redesign. This award is presented to the engineering team responsible for the highest-rated redesigned vehicle for the 2019 Model Year. The award, based on consumer evaluations of initial quality and appeal, is for the 2019 Model Year vehicle that is furthest ahead of its predecessor.

The awards were originally planned for announcement at SAE International’s WCX™ World Congress Experience on April 21-23, 2020, which was canceled this year due to concerns around the rapidly evolving coronavirus pandemic.
