Sam Boak Explains the Importance of Quality Employees and Training
In the exterior contracting field, contractors work on projects that vary from a simple shingle repair to an entire tear-off and new roof application of large commercial buildings. Regardless of how big or small the job is, quality is crucial to making sure the job gets done right the first time! Here at Boak & Sons, roofing jobs aren't our only specialty. YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, June 11, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In the exterior contracting field, contractors work on projects that vary from a simple shingle repair to an entire tear-off and new roof application of large commercial buildings. Regardless of how big or small the job is, quality is crucial to making sure the job gets done right the first time! Here at Boak & Sons, roofing jobs aren't our only specialty. We also handle siding, gutters, and insulation jobs for both residential and commercial customers.
We have two rules here at Boak & Sons - #1: Safety is always first and #2: Never ever EVER cut a corner. Rule #2 is all about providing the absolute best quality work on every project we work on. To ensure this rule is carried out, Sam Boak focuses largely on the importance of quality employees and thorough training.
Sam Boak is a firm believer in hiring quality, experienced employees. For those with less experience, he requires them to go through weeks of training with his more qualified workers before they start on job sites. For example, all employees are required to attend training as soon as they are hired with the company and continuously attend refresher training throughout the year. Training consists of anything from Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) courses to learning new installation methods directly from the manufacturers of our products.
"Never ever EVER cut a corner is one of my rules for a reason," says Sam Boak. "Quality of work is crucial, and I need to be able to trust my employees to deliver. It's my responsibility to ensure my employees are trained and prepared to provide top quality work on every job."
Most if not all our foreman and project managers have decades of experience and are trusted to train their crews to uphold the Boak & Sons standard. Long-term employment extends to our workers in the field as well with many of our senior crew members having years of experience under their belts. Many of our employees here at Boak & Sons have made a life-time career of their trade. Over half of our workforce has been here for over 10 years and the remaining employees are from growth. It's not just a job here at Boak & Sons, it's a family.
"When we hire employees, we make an effort to hire people who already have valid experience," says Chris White, vice president operations here at Boak & Sons. "However, we can also appreciate potential, and we know that our current employees are qualified to train new people to perform just as well as our veterans."
