AUSTINTOWN, Ohio, June 22, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Sam Boak, president and founder of Boak & Sons, Inc. is well known for his charitable events and donations throughout the Mahoning Valley. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic shut down, Boak worked tirelessly to keep his employees working safely to put food on their tables. As the state of Ohio started to reopen, Boak wanted to do something special for the entire community that supported him and his business during the mandated shut-down. He contacted the Canfield Rotary Club for support, and together they hosted a free community garage sale on Saturday, May 22.
This free garage sale consisted of thousands of donated items from Boak & Sons employees, Canfield Rotary Club members and the local community. Sam Boak and the Boak employees spent days setting up the warehouse with tables and displays for the donated items. These items included furniture, gently used household appliances, clothing, children's toys, tools, and many other quality items. The day of the event, over 1,000 people attended throughout the day. Attendees were given one box and 30 minutes to "shop" around the warehouse and items were refilled throughout the day.
"This community has supported Boak & Sons for decades," said Boak. "During the lockdown, we had to work twice as hard to keep our customers happy while prioritizing safety. The patience shown by our customers and their loyalty is something I'll never forget, and I wanted to show them my appreciation. We are all so fortunate to have the lives we do, and the best thing we can do for each other is help those in need."
All left over items were donated to local charitable organizations. Monetary donations were also collected by The Salvation Army and the BeAttitude House throughout the day. Social distancing guidelines were strictly enforced as well as the wearing of face coverings throughout the day. Sam Boak ensured the safety of all attendees by limiting the number of people allowed into the warehouse to shop at one time.
"We are thrilled at how many people came to support this event," said Chris White, vice president, operations at Boak & Sons, Inc. "This was our first attempt at an event like this and we're blown away by how successful it was. We can't thank the Canfield Rotary Club enough for making this happen, and we especially want to thank all the people and local businesses that donated items for this event. We can't wait to do something like this again to continue supporting our Youngstown family."
