San Diego Audiovisual Integrator Completes Work on The Lot in San Ramon
San Diego audiovisual company, Fluid Sound, announced they recently completed the audio and video integration for The Lot, an impressive new entertainment venue in the newly constructed City Center Bishop Ranch in the city of San Ramon, California.
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- San Diego audiovisual company Fluid Sound announced recently that their company had completed the audio and video integration for The Lot, an impressive new entertainment venue in the newly constructed City Center Bishop Ranch in the city of San Ramon, California.
The Lot in City Center Bishop Ranch is considered the flagship venue in the new high-end shopping mall. It consists of a 10-screen luxury movie theater with in-theater food service, a bar, and a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The mall itself was designed by world-renowned "Starchitect" Renzo Piano of the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, who also designed such structures as the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco and The Shard in London.
This venue is the fourth location for The Lot, which has two locations in the San Diego area, and one in Orange County, California—all of which used Fluid Sound for their AV integration.
Audio Video Integration for a Multi-Use, State-of-the-Art Entertainment Venue
For the 10 auditoriums in the movie theater portion of the venue, Fluid Sound utilized NEC displays for digital signage at the front of each auditorium entrance to announce the featured movie, and four more NEC displays in the box office area to show general movie information and show times. In addition, NEC products were used in the bar area of the venue. Two NEC displays were used as digital signage for food and beverage sales, while nine 55-inch NEC displays were put together to form an impressive 3x3 video wall. The video wall has three display modes: it can show one large image across all nine screens, nine independent images on each of the nine displays, or one large image in a 2x2 configuration (over four displays) with five smaller, independent images on the other five displays.
The state-of-the-art audio system in the restaurant and bar areas was designed to give the venue a rich, warm sound, while still having the ability to achieve nightclub-level sound. Tapped horn floor standing subwoofers by Danley Sound Labs were selected because of their ability to produce a deep bass sound from a cabinet small enough to blend in with the décor. The venue's high ceilings and highly reverberant rooms required that the ceiling loudspeakers have a very narrow coverage pattern to properly focus the audio to help minimize sound reflections and increase the intelligibility of the audio.
Meeting Room Capabilities for Private Events
In addition to being an entertainment venue, The Lot is also designed to be utilized for private events in the auditoriums. Fluid Sound gave the venue meeting room-style presentation capabilities, with the ability for users to connect their laptop computers and mobile devices and display their content on the auditoriums' screens. Those presentations can also be broadcast into other "overflow" theaters or to the 3x3 video wall in the bar area.
One of the things that makes the San Ramon location different from the other three venues, according to Dennis Pappenfus of Fluid Sound, is the hardware used for video distribution. Pappenfus explains, "At The Lot locations in Fashion Island, La Jolla, and Liberty Station, we used traditional video switches and matrices. In the San Ramon venue, we went with video over IP devices from Just Add Power. This allows all of the video inputs to be routed to any video display in the venue, creating a virtual matrix that utilizes a standard ethernet network, without the need for a traditional physical video matrix router."
Control of the venue's audio, video, lighting, and HVAC systems is accomplished by using wireless iPads as well as hardwired Crestron touch panels, which interface with the Crestron control system.
