Cook, who was administered the oath of office on Friday, Dec. 6, by San Diego County Superior Court Presiding Judge David Danielson, was one of at-large four candidates to emerge victorious out of a ten-candidate field in this year’s election. (An eleventh candidate, who ran for an opening reserved for eastern San Diego County, was also elected).
In attendance for the swearing-in ceremony at SDCBA headquarters were Cook’s wife, Marcia; their daughters, Lilah (15) and Jennifer (12); and Cook’s parents, Stuart and Josepha Cook of Mendham Twp., New Jersey – Cook’s hometown. Cook’s in-laws, Joseph and Diane Gezelter of Encinitas, were also present. Numerous attorneys and judges were also present for the annual swearing -in ceremony, which is known as “Stepping Up to the Bar.”
“For me, being chosen by my peers is the great honor of my life,” said Cook, who is certified as a Family Law Specialist by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization (“BLS”). Over 7,000 attorney members of the SDCBA were eligible to vote.
Cook was one of several BLS specialists to be elected to the SDCBA Board in this year’s election. He was endorsed by numerous individuals and organizations, including three retired judges and two retired commissioners; five former presidents of the SDCBA Board of Directors – three of whom either now serve or formerly served on the State Bar of California Board of Trustees; and 21 other BLS family law specialists.
