San Leandro Center for Autism Expands to Support Growing Need
SAN LEANDRO, Calif (PRWEB) August 09, 2018 -- Autism is a developmental disorder affecting more than 3.5 million Americans’ ability to communicate and socialize with others. Given how widespread autism is, (approximately 1 in 68 people have the disorder), chances are you know someone on the autism spectrum! While autism cannot be “cured,” there are options to help teach a child with autism methods of communication and tactics to interact with others. These options help set a child up for success in life, through school and beyond into adulthood.
The ability to diagnose autism at an early age is key to a child’s progress. The earlier an intervention takes place the better chance the child will have to succeed in school, work, and eventually living an independent life. The only form of therapy recommended by the US Surgeon General and supported by research to treat autism spectrum disorders is the science of Applied Behavior Analysis, often referred to as “ABA therapy.”
One family described their experience with ABA therapy with a national autism therapies provider, Autism Learning Partners, and their three children who were diagnosed with autism:
“ABA was the best choice for our family and allowed our children to maintain their personalities while working through the anxiety and sensitivities often found in autism spectrum disorders.”
This family’s three children who underwent ABA therapy eventually went on to be in gifted and talented programs, with one child even attending an international baccalaureate program. Without ABA therapy, this level of independence may not have been possible. “ABA was imperative to their successes,” stated the mother of these three children.
While Autism Learning Partners, who is opening the San Leandro Center for Autism, has been serving its community for the over 30 years, the recent increase in demand for services from local families meant that the center would need to expand to serve more families.
The state of the art ABA center is holding an open house for their grand opening to unveil the newly renovated space, which will include a free carnival for local families. This event will take place on September 29th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM with free games and activities for children, food, and a raffle of items including a family pass to both California’s Great American and the Children’s Creativity Museum. Parents are encouraged to view the new facility and meet the staff, getting all their questions answered about center-based ABA therapy.
