Saugatuck Technology Announces 2013 Beacon Innovation Award Winners
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 25, 2013 -- Saugatuck Technology, the leading subscription research and business strategy consulting firm focused on the Cloud, today announced the 2013 winners of Saugatuck’s annual Beacon Awards for business and IT innovation. The winners are being presented with their awards during Saugatuck’s annual Cloud Business Summit, held today at the Westin Times Square in New York City.
This year, Saugatuck recognizes four pioneering enterprises whose innovative applications of Cloud and related IT improved their business – and their abilities to create and take advantage of new opportunities. Those firms are as follows:
• State Street Corporation. State Street Corp. has not only built and deployed, but patented, a private Cloud platform for internal business and IT improvement. Developed with Cloud Technology Partners, this private Cloud platform has radically reduced time by eliminating manual processing. It has simplified support, improved utilization and reduced hardware, software, maintenance and operational costs. New application development can be based on re-use of software, process and data, reducing build/test time and cost by as much as 50 percent. Standardized services improve quality, efficiency and control. And the combination of re-use and automation in development improves deployment time from 6 weeks to 6 – 7 minutes.
• Milliman. Milliman adapted its existing financial services modeling software to a dynamic, Cloud-based infrastructure built on Microsoft Azure’s HPC / Parallel Processing platform. Milliman’s initial Cloud client went from running on 200 processors to running on as many as 10,000 in the Cloud. Clients running the Cloud-based solution have seen up to 90 percent reductions in time and resources required, with improved accuracy. In the process, Milliman has also re-invented itself into a Cloud services/SaaS provider with an emerging business model, with more Cloud solutions preparing to launch.
• Capital District Physicians Health Plan. Cloud-based financial analysis and planning solutions built with Cloud-based solutions from Adaptive Planning improved CDPHP’s ability to strategically plan and manage through significant healthcare industry change. Reporting time has been reduced from weeks to minutes; CDPHP’s executive team has instant visibility into its ultimate business drivers; and CDPHP has driven errors out of its models and plans. The solution now in use enables more consolidated and coordinated planning, increasing CDPHP’s ability to model, support, and provide evidence for fee structures with external government stakeholders, while helping to align resources to support business demands driven by further industry change.
• Hilti Corp. Hilti implemented a 2-tier, Cloud-enabled ERP architecture and approach combining SAP’s traditional ERP and Cloud-based Business By Design solutions, which enabled subsidiaries to implement key business management and reporting capabilities without the need for on-site/local implementation, integration, and support resources. The use of Cloud-based, standardized interfaces, data formats, and functionalities enabled faster and less-disruptive deployment, reduced support costs, improved communication, and standardized management and reporting practices, all of which enabled improved abilities to do business locally while improving corporate oversight and involvement with subsidiaries. Organizational interaction has been effectively “flattened” in ways that help to improve business interaction and efficiencies.
“The types of innovation that we envisioned for the Awards are significant improvements in how a firm operates, the types of markets or lines of business that it is in, or how a firm has applied different ways of thinking, management, and use of technologies to create new offerings, markets, ways of doing business, or entirely new businesses,” according to Saugatuck SVP and head of Research Bruce Guptill.
“We are proud to recognize not only these terrific firms and their visionary leaders, but all of the firms that were nominated for our inaugural Beacon Awards. It’s a tremendous feeling to see the broad and deep ranges of business and IT innovation being developed and deployed to create and improve enterprises, processes, ways of doing business, and even new business opportunities – it’s what our Cloud Business Summit is all about,” added Saugatuck founder and CEO Bill McNee.
