NEW YORK, Nov. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Scala Computing announced that it has closed an additional $1.5M in funding; expanded the executive leadership and technical advisory board to help accelerate the market penetration of its flagship product: the Scala Compute Platform, an end-to-end, secure and hyper-scalable high-performance computing (HPC) platform that enables enterprises of all sizes to leverage the power of Big Compute on-demand, on the cloud.
"There has been significant inertia with regards to cloud adoption from the high-performance computing community. Legacy infrastructure does not effectively address the needs of enterprises and research groups today, but with the Scala Compute Platform, organizations gain access to a truly end-to-end platform that is both cost-effective, secure, and highly performant. Our users have seen massive performance boosts and cost savings. We break the gridlock of expensive human capital requirements, long queue times, and limited compute capacity that are traditionally associated with HPC. It really is a paradigm shift in the world of supercomputing, and we are excited at the huge market opportunity ahead of us," said Arjun Kapoor, co-founder and board member.
"Scala is well positioned to lead in the multi-billion-dollar HPC market, and enable enterprises to leverage on-demand, high-performance computing. Our early success with some of the leading universities, weather analytics firms, water utilities, and environmental protection agencies in addition to strategic partnerships with leading HPC application providers validates our platform's immense value-add" said Shiv Kumar, co-founder and board member.
Scala Computing has assembled a stellar founding leadership team that has rich experience of scaling startups and deep competencies in the HPC and cloud domains.
Rob Zecha joins the company as COO, after highly successful executive stints at Network Peripherals, NetVision, where he was the co-founder and FalconStor Software. He has led the development and extensive growth of both networking and storage enterprise products.
Sam Rahman, a serial entrepreneur (co-founder at DiditLabs) and previously the head of mobile and connected devices at BamTech (acquired by Disney for $1.6Bn) joins as the CTO.
Scala Computing has also added Dr. Vyas Sekar, the Angel Jordan Early Career Chair and Associate Professor in the ECE Department at Carnegie Mellon University, and Dr. Yuefan Deng, Distinguished Professor at Stony Brook University's Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics to its technical advisory board.
"Scala Computing's engineering team has built a robust and highly scalable compute platform for complex workloads - cutting down run-times and saving significant spend on infrastructure with their on-demand accessibility and cost-effective pricing structure," said Dr. Yuefan Deng.
The company counts New York City's Department of Environmental Protection as one of its key clients where the Scala Compute Platform was successfully deployed to run their water quality models on the cloud.
Scala Computing has a strategic collaboration with NCAR (the National Center for Atmospheric Research) on Scala's cloud infrastructure platform for the development of new cloud capabilities for the widely-used Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model for weather prediction. The Scala Compute Platform offers end-to-end functionality for weather forecasting firms and atmospheric research groups to migrate, run, and manage the WRF application in the cloud.
About Scala Computing:
Scala Computing is focused on enabling organizations to leverage the power of Big Compute easily, cost-effectively, and efficiently. We remove the barriers to entry and complexity of high-performance computing (HPC) so that engineers, researchers, and developers across industries can focus on their core drivers of value: their applications, not the compute environment.
The team at Scala Computing has received several prestigious awards and grants for research in High Performance Computing. These include awards from the U.S. DOE, NSF, NIH, ARO, NYS, HPC2, Siemens, Oracle, and Intel, amongst others.
