Schafer’s DHS Customer Earns High Praise from Congress
Arlington, Va. (PRWEB) January 23, 2015 -- On December 1st the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that recognized and strengthened Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Domestic Nuclear Detection Office’s (DNDO) lead role in coordinating efforts to detect and intercept radiological and nuclear devices that threaten U.S. security.
Schafer Government Services Sector (GSS) is the primary provider of Scientific, Engineering, and Technical Assistance (SETA) at the DHS DNDO. Schafer’s DNDO team is extremely pleased to have played an essential role in DNDO’s success.
“This bill represents a significant achievement for DNDO” said Schafer DHS General Manager, Ramesh Ramaswamy. “DNDO has come a long way since its inception, and our team has played a major role in building DNDO’s reputation.”
Bill H.R. 5629, the Strengthening Domestic Nuclear Security Act of 2014, passed by a margin of 374-11, and was supported by Representatives Patrick Meehan (R-Pennsylvania) and Yvette Clarke (D-New York).
The Representatives gave bipartisan testimony in support of the bill – praising the work of the present DNDO leadership and staff.
“DNDO has had its share of struggles in the past, but over the past several years it’s made significant improvements from top to bottom and today is one of the best functioning components in the Department of Homeland Security” said Rep. Meehan.
Notably, one of the important features of the bill is the authorization of the Securing the Cities Program, a program set up to enhance the ability to detect and prevent radiological or nuclear attacks in high-risk U.S. cities.
“This program represents a real success for DNDO. Under the Securing the Cities Program, DNDO works with local, state, city and tribal leaders to bolster technological, nuclear detection capabilities, nuclear forensics efforts, and coordination of non-conventional threats” said Rep. Clarke.
The passage of H.R. 5629 by the House is an important endorsement of the DNDO team’s hard work, and is a clear recognition of the team’s diligence addressing the national security challenge of nuclear and radiological terrorism.
“Schafer has served DNDO since it was established in 2005. We take great pride that our company has been a part of the DNDO Team from the Office’s infancy to the mature and efficient organization that exists today. The relationship we have developed with our DNDO client partners is exceptional and are pleased that they are being recognized for the strides the organization has made. The synergy between our teams continues to result in tangible gains in national security and improved the value DNDO delivers to the field. We look forward to continuing to grow as a primary SETA provider to DNDO - so that we can support the continued success of this important Schafer customer” said Ramaswamy.
