Schools Advance Their Students to the Finals of the Cyber Robotics Coding Competition
Students in eight states are gearing up for the finals of their state's 2018 Cyber Robotics Coding Competitions (CRCC), being held by the Intelitek STEM and CTE Education Foundation (ISCEF).
ATLANTA, Nov. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Students in eight states are gearing up for the finals of their state's 2018 Cyber Robotics Coding Competitions(CRCC), being held by the Intelitek STEM and CTE Education Foundation (ISCEF) with a few more state finals in early 2019. CRCC, which kicked off in October, is the first-of-its-kind, free to participate, online coding and robotics tournament for students in grades 5-9, engaging those students in STEM learning by using game-based competitions that are both safe and fun. The Finals are a live, in-person, one-day event in which two student representatives from each school will be challenged to complete advanced missions (coding tasks) under a time constraint.
In all, 581 schools with 35,422 students in 14 states and the District of Columbia have participated in this year's CRCC. Now, finalists in California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas will be traveling to venues in their home state this December to compete in person:
California - Saturday, December 15, 2018 University of the Pacific - Stockton 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Connecticut - Friday, December 7, 2018 University of Bridgeport 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
D.C. & Maryland - Saturday, December 8, 2018 The Universities at Shady Grove Noon - 5 p.m.
New Hampshire - Saturday, December 15, 201 University of New Hampshire 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
New Jersey- Friday, December 14, 2018 New Jersey Institute of Technology 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
New York - Tuesday, December 11, 2018 Cradle of Aviation Museum 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Pennsylvania- Tuesday, December 4, 2018 Harrisburg University. 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Texas- Saturday, December 1, 2018 Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
As with the previous tournament rounds, competitors will undertake their missions on Intelitek's award-winning CoderZ Cyber Robotics Learning Environment, a cloud-based platform featuring a graphical simulation of LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robots. The innovative, online platform has a coding interface where users between 5th and 12th grade can activate a virtual robot, or "cyber-robot," and watch the results in a real-time simulation.
CRCC judges will evaluate the teams' total score as well as other variables, including time to complete, number of missions attempted/completed, strategy, and code. Special guests, including professionals, college and graduate students as well as academics will attend the state finals and speak with students, educators and families about their STEM/STEAM experiences and STEM/STEAM-related study and career opportunities.
Sponsored by Intelitek, CoderZ, Oracle Academy, and Yaskawa Motoman, the first eight-week virtual coding competition was held in New Hampshire at the end of 2017 and gave rise to an international phenomenon that has resulted in more than 100,000 students all over the world participating in similar events. In September, more than 30,000 students in Vietnam registered for their country's CRCC in just under 48 hours.
