SciTechsperience Launches the 2018-2019 Program Year after Placing Over 1,270 Interns Since 2012
MINNEAPOLIS (PRWEB) September 25, 2018 -- The SciTechsperience Internship Program is now accepting student and company applications for the 2018-2019 program year. SciTechsperience connects STEM college students to paid internships in small Minnesota companies. As a program of the Minnesota High Tech Association, and through a grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, SciTechsperience exists to build and retain Minnesota’s STEM workforce.
“The SciTechsperience Internship Program is critical for ensuring our state builds and retains its STEM workforce,” said Margaret Anderson Kelliher, president & CEO of the Minnesota High Tech Association. “SciTechsperience connects students with high-quality, high-impact experiences in their field while also giving companies access to top talent to build their talent pipeline.”
Allan Loney, CEO of LCL Electronics in Baxter, Minnesota said, “Having our SciTechsperience intern makes us more profitable. “I’m looking at new multimillion-dollar jobs that I would have had to pass on without him.”
Students who secure an internship through the program will receive paid, hands-on experience at one of the hundreds of participating companies in industries across the state. Businesses that hire interns through SciTechsperience receive up to $2,500 per intern to help cover half their wages. To be eligible, businesses must have fewer than 250 employees worldwide. Students and employers can view requirements and apply to take part in the program at http://scitechmn.org/.
“This internship was probably the biggest turn around in my life, and that all stems from SciTech,” said Austin Wong-Parker, a computer science major at the University of Minnesota, interning at the Comtrol Corporation. “I really appreciate this internship so much.”
Becky Siekmeier, SciTechsperience program director, said, “We are incredibly excited to launch the new program year. SciTech participants tell us that the program is a great resource. For companies, it means help finding great talent, boosting their productivity and positively impacting their bottom line. For students, it means having a one-stop shop for finding STEM internships right here in Minnesota. It’s a win-win.”
SciTechsperience was established in January, 2012 to offer college students pursuing STEM degrees the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in solving real-world challenges. The program is designed to expand a pool of talent to support Minnesota companies commercializing new technology, products and processes. Since its start, the SciTechsperience program has placed over 1,270 students in internships and nearly 1,700 students applied for internships in the last program year alone.
