Bethany Beach, Delaware (PRWEB) March 25, 2014 -- Sea Colony Tennis Director Thomas Johnston recently earned an upgraded certification rating of Elite Professional through the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). The upgrade followed an extensive examination of tennis and business skills including demonstrating abilities in tennis operations management and business skills, tennis teaching and playing skills, stroke analysis and group and private lesson instruction.
Tennis-teaching professionals earn a USPTA rating based on certifications exam scores in categories ranging from Recreational Coach to Professional to Elite Professional. To achieve a higher certification rating, candidates must improve their exam performance. Years of experience also contributes to earning a higher rating.
USPTA, founded in 1927, is the world’s oldest and largest association of tennis-teaching professionals. The association strives to raise the standards of the tennis professional while promoting greater awareness of the sport. USPTA has a membership of more than 15,000 professionals worldwide.
Sea Colony’s Tennis Center was recently renovated and now has six indoor courts, an upgraded pro shop and mezzanine area that overlooks the indoor courts. The exterior decks now allow spectators to view multiple outdoor courts.
Selected as a 2012 USTA Outstanding Facility of the Year; the Tennis Center has earned additional national and global honors. Under the leadership of Tennis Director Thomas Johnston, Sea Colony was named a 2013 Top 50 resort and the No. 15 tennis camp in the world, as well as No. 2 for best junior programs, by Tennis Resorts Online.com, an electronic publication whose annual rankings are determined by tennis players. Sea Colony was also listed among Tennis Magazine’s Top 50 American Resorts in 2012, including No. 3 in the Mid-Atlantic region.
