Search Technologies Helps U.S. Government Publishing Office Launch govinfo
Herndon, Virginia (PRWEB) February 10, 2016 -- Search Technologies, working under contract with the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO), has successfully migrated GPO’s online presence to a new open source platform, providing more flexibility, ease of use, and cost savings. Search Technologies specializes in the design and implementation of enterprise search and big data applications.
The new http://www.govinfo.gov launched this month in beta testing mode. It is an online tool used by both the government and public to retrieve official documents and publications from all three branches of the federal government. The new system is built on the Solr open source search platform, which was implemented and configured by Search Technologies. It features a completely re-designed search user interface and a responsive, mobile friendly design.
“The move to open source solutions is a priority for many government agencies because it provides greater agility, flexibility, faster deployment, and above all, cost savings,” said Kamran Khan, CEO of Search Technologies. “Search Technologies has been responsible for search and document preparation for the system since 2007, and we are proud to be involved in this historic migration project,” he added.
The beta site will operate as such for one year while the agency gathers feedback from users. A permanent website is expected in 2017. Additional improvements of the new system include re-designed navigation based on testing and user feedback, and enhanced functionality that links related documents together.
