Festival is free and open to all, with scrumptious Turkish cuisine and beverages, live entertainment all day long, and many activities for children
LOS ANGELES, May 9, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The second annual Turkish Festival hosted by ATASC is scheduled for Sunday, May 21st at Shoreline Aquatic Park in Long Beach. After an extremely successful inaugural event in 2022, organizers are expecting as many as 3,000 attendees this year for the showcase of Turkish culture, history, and food.
"All are welcome!" said Nilay Senel-Nylund, Turkish Festival Chairperson. "There has never been more to celebrate and there has never been a better time to celebrate our diversity. Our festival is made up of the most incredible, passionate, and resilient small business owners and creative artists, and we are thrilled to bring them to you."
The festival celebrates the Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day. Additionally, this year marks the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic.
Showcasing traditional Turkish food and drink – döner, baklava, Turkish coffee, oh my! – the event also features live entertainment throughout the day, merchandise vendors, arts and crafts exhibitors, and numerous activities for children.
Musicians performing include folk band Alaturca Connection, the AKM Turkish Music Chorus with Ali Tolga, the Anatolia Folk Dance Group, DJ Volkan Duygun, MC Zeynep Ataman, and acclaimed belly dancer Laman Museyava.
Sponsors include local and international businesses, from financial firm Swan Bitcoin and California Language Academy, to ethnic grocery delivery service Get Bakkal and the GlobalB Law Firm.
Hosting the festival is the Association of Turkish Americans of Southern California (ATASC), an umbrella organization with seven local chapters and three schools serving Turkish Americans from Santa Barbara to San Diego with cultural and educational programs. ATASC is the oldest and largest Turkish American nonprofit organization in Southern California.
"Last year, over three thousand people from all walks of life attended the festival and had an amazing time," said Senel-Nylund. "We encourage you to invite your friends, colleagues, and neighbors, and bring your entire family to enjoy delicious food, music, and entertainment and experience our culture! Please, join us."
