Securly Expands Global Footprint with "First-in-region" Chromebook Deployments
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) August 06, 2015 -- The predominance of the Chromebook in the American K-12 1:1 landscape has been an established fact for some time now. Chromebook sales have recently surpassed those of iPads in the K-12 market. By some recent estimates, over 50% of US schools have Chromebooks.
Now, the Chromebook phenomenon is spreading globally. Today, Securly, Inc. - the world's leading cloud based provider of Internet security for K-12 schools - announced it was part of the first 1:1 Chromebook deployments in three strategically important regions.
- The Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy (IPACA) is a set of academies – the UK equivalent of charter schools – that has been an early Chromebook adopter and represents the UK's first and largest 1:1 take-home Chromebook deployment. IPACA embraces a "stage, not age" based approach to learning. Classrooms are "super-classes" that emulate collaborative spaces commonly found in companies like Google. Says Gary Spracklen, IPACA Director of Digital Learning and Innovation and member of the UK Government's Educational Technology Action Group: "We looked at a range of web filters, including other Chrome extensions. Nothing came close to Securly though."
- The Kuwait English School with 2500 chromebooks represents the first ever 1:1 Chromebook rollout in the Middle East. Paul Crossley, who co-ordinated the deployment, expects strong demand among private schools in the regions and anticipates 2-3 additional schools of comparable sizes to follow suit in the next few months. Says Crossley, "The fear of all Teachers and Parents is not knowing what each child is doing on the Internet and if the content they are accessing is appropriate and safe. Securly has made it possible for Kuwait English School to deploy Chromebooks for use both in school and at home, with the knowledge that the Internet is filtered wherever and whenever the Chromebooks are used. It provides peace of mind for both parents and teachers."
- Finally, McKinnon Secondary College's rollout of 700 Chromebooks represents the first large scale deployment in Australia. Says Blake Seufert IT Manager at McKinnon, "Installing Securly with Chromebooks took literally 5 minutes and gave us substantial visibility on kids' activities from web browsing to social updates to google searches."
