Ernst Fischer announces publication of 'Pioneers and Refugees'
WORTHINGTON, Ohio, June 7, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In "Pioneers and Refugees: A Danube Swabian Saga" (published by Archway Publishing), Ernst Fischer's historical tale based on true events, two families decide to embark on the great Danube Swabian trek, ultimately transforming their lives and legacies forever.
The book is two parts. Part one is about two families in 18th century Germany — the Muellers and the Schulers — who leave their lives of servitude and venture to the frontier to start a new life for themselves and their families. Part two takes place in 1930s Yugoslavia with the descendants of those pioneers, as the towns become embroiled in the events and atrocities of the Second World War and follows the families as they are evicted from their homes and become refugees, seeking safety from the war.
"It is plainly written, an engrossing and engaging story of how two families dealt with challenges and adversities to make better lives for themselves and their families," Fischer says. "Conflicts among ethnic groups continue today. Families struggle but remain together through challenges, sorrow and adversity."
Kirkus Reviews gives "Pioneers and Refugees" the starred review distinction and writes of the book that it is "An engrossing, satisfying account of the development and disintegration of a lesser-known immigrant community."
