About the Author
Yvonne Nunes was born in 1935. War was threatening. Her dad worked on the railroad in Portola. She broke her arm the first month in Portola. She had gas gangrene and her arm was amputated. Her case proved Penicillin kills gangrene. After the war, she went to Quincy where she grew up. She attended college at Adelphi College, NY, and met Art at Sacramento State in 1956. They fell in love and married in 1958. They had twin girls and a daughter. Nunes’ first teaching job was at Our Lady of Assumption. She began her Masters Degree and later on had a career in education as a teacher and principal in the Western Placer School District, which lasted for twenty-eight years. She retired and was elected to the school board and served for two years. Art died in 1999. She misses him every day. She met Cap Pfeffer at the grief group meetings and they married in 2001. They traveled the world until 2003. Cap died, she misses him and Art every day. She currently lives in Roseville, CA. Nunes loves to paint, write, and travel.
