SemaConnect Achieves CTEP Certification for Series 5 and Series 6 EV Charging Stations
The leading open charging network achieves approval from the California Department of Food and Agriculture for accurate measurement of Level 2 electric vehicle charging
BOWIE, Md., Nov. 9, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ --SemaConnect, leading provider of electric vehicle charging services to the North American residential and commercial property market, announces California Type Evaluation Program (CTEP) certification of the Series 5 and Series 6 EV charging stations. Evaluated and approved by the California Department of Food and Agriculture's (CDFA) Division of Measurement Standards, the CTEP certifies the accuracy of commercial measuring equipment. SemaConnect is the sixth company to meet the new, rigorous CTEP testing standard.
Beginning in 2021, all new publicly available commercial electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) and fueling systems (EVFS) in California are required to switch from per-minute to per-kilowatt-hour billing structures. With billing per kWh comes the requirement for accurate measurement of energy transferred, as verified by CDFA and DMS. Commercial EV charging stations must record electrical delivery to the 0.0001 kWh and display pricing, maximum energy transfer, voltage ratings, and temperature limits. SemaConnect first submitted the Series 5 Multifamily and Series 6 Commercial charging stations for approval and met all standards.
"California has set new standards that promote fairness and clarity for EV drivers," said Mark Pastrone, COO at SemaConnect. "The CTEP certification was added this year, and we are proud to meet this new charging standard. Combined with Open Access Act requirements, California is sending a message that EV charging must be easy-to-use and accurate for drivers. With the new CTEP certification for our two most popular charging stations, we will continue to provide our drivers and customers with the best charging experience in the industry."
In addition to CTEP certification, the Series 5 and Series 6 charging stations are ENERGY STAR certified. The Level 2 charging stations feature the J-1772 plug and up to 7.2kW charge for compatibility with all EVs in California. With the OCPP 1.6-certified SemaConnect Network, station owners can control access, set custom pricing, program load management, and view custom reports on usage and sustainability. At publicly available SemaConnect charging stations, EV drivers can start charging with a SemaConnect Pass, SemaConnect app, network.semaconnect.com, automated phone system, and select third-party mobile applications, including PlugShare and ChargeHub.
