Sensys Networks and the City of Fort Wayne, Indiana roll out GiveMeGreen! app to help improve safety of bicyclists
GiveMeGreen! enables bicyclists to be detected at traffic signals, increasing efficiency and safety for all modes of traffic.
BERKELEY, Calif., Sept. 30, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Sensys Networks, in conjunction with the City of Fort Wayne, Indiana, announce the deployment of GiveMeGreen! - a free smartphone application that allows bicyclists to be detected as they approach an intersection. The initial phase retrofitted 10 intersections in Fort Wayne and the app has been downloaded more than 500 times in the first month since becoming available.
As is the case in many urban areas, Fort Wayne is experiencing an increase in bicycle and scooter ridership. "We believe the technology will improve the rider experience whether you're on a leisurely ride or your daily commute," said Amy Hartzog, Program Manager of Greenways and Trails for Fort Wayne.
"GiveMeGreen! enables bicyclists to be detected more easily at traffic signals, just as vehicles are, which increases efficiency and safety for all modes of traffic," described Brian Fuller, President of Sensys Networks. "Fort Wayne is a forward-thinking city that sees the value in providing better transportation tools for not only drivers, but riders as well."
Sensys Networks had previously launched the GiveMeGreen! service with the City of Santa Clarita, California, where it has won multiple awards from transportation engineering and public works organizations, and was recently deployed in Lafayette, Louisiana. The GiveMeGreen! app is available for free in the Apple App Store for iPhones and on Google Play for Android devices.
