SEOHost.net COO Offers Insight Into Recent Study that Finds Half of All Searches Are No-Click

ORLANDO, Fla., September 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- SEOHost.net, a domain registration, SSL service, and SEO hosting provider, has commented on recent findings that almost half of searches do not result in a click-through.
The research, carried out by software developer and marketing firm SparkToro, analyzed Google clickstream data provided by marketing analytics firm Jumpshot. The goal of the study, according to SparkToro founder Rand Fishkin, was to determine just how much of the search market Alphabet, Google's parent company, directs to its own products and services. Although there was some indication of cannibalization, it appeared for the most part that the search engine worked as intended.
That is, said SEOHost.Net's COO Terry Cane, small comfort to publishers and webmasters, especially those working in industries in which Google has a presence.
"One of Fishkin's main conclusions was that Google is almost certainly capturing search traffic from industries such as travel, lyrics, and hotels," said Cane. "But I don't believe it's the result of nefarious actions on Alphabet's part. I doubt the company would be that foolish, especially with the regulatory scrutiny it's currently experiencing."
"Google has made no secret of the fact that it wants to deliver the best results possible to its users," he continued. "In some cases, that might be an Alphabet property, and that's to be expected. The company is very good at what it does, after all - with a few notable exceptions like Google +."
Concerning the fact that such a large percentage of search results are zero-click, Cane said she was "surprised the number is that high" but added, "the news is not all bad."
"The ClickStream data does not, for instance, capture searches taking place in mobile apps. It also cannot portray why these searches terminated as they did - it may be that the user found the results they were looking for right on the SERP, or that they chose to further refine their search," she said.
Cane noted that statistics such as those unveiled by SparkToro only further underscore the importance of social media from a marketing perspective.
