Commercial Cleaning Services Company Donates $5,000 for Gala
CULVER CITY, Calif., Nov. 10, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Servicon, Southern California's leading environmental services (EVS) provider for hospitals and commercial cleaning services company, is proud to be a Partner of the Building Skills Partnership (BSP) 2022 Mike Garcia Scholarship Gala.
The event, which provides financial support to help children of property service workers obtain a higher education, takes place Thursday, November 10, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at La Plaza De Cultura y Artes. Servicon donated $5,000 to be a Partner-level sponsor of the gala, which will feature food from local restaurants, live music, and a silent auction.
With 2023 marking its 15th anniversary, BSP offers a variety of programs to help improve the quality of life of property service workers in low-wage industries as well as their families and communities. The programs are designed to increase workers' access to education, leadership, and career advancement throughout California. BSP works closely with SEIU-United Service Workers West, janitorial employers, building owners, and community leaders.
Servicon & BSP: An Ongoing Partnership
Servicon is a year-round partner of BSP, helping the labor-focused organization develop training programs and other opportunities that create career paths for workers, including within the EVS for healthcare, commercial cleaning services, and facility maintenance sectors. Servicon also opens the doors of its state-of-the-art, LEED-Platinum certified training center and other sites to allow BSP to use them to conduct training and certification programs, many of which are led by Servicon trainers.

A Recent Victory
An example of the partnership between Servicon and BSP was the recent graduation of BSP's Floor Care Certification program that BSP staff and Servicon team members attended at a Servicon client's site in Los Angeles. The certification provides workers with a foundational knowledge of floor care concepts. It includes an eight-hour classroom curriculum plus three weeks of on-the-job training.
The BSP Floor Care Certification program is one of BSP's high-road programs. These programs are part of the California Workforce Development Board's High Road Training Partnership, funded through California Climate Investments.
"I had a great experience and would like to thank BSP for overseeing the certification training," says Servicon Floor Care Technician and Peer Trainer Rosa Terriquez. "I would also like to thank Servicon for giving [us] the opportunity to be in this program. I greatly benefited from the formal in-class floor care training, and [as a trainer], I wanted to make sure I gave my peers the same knowledge."
About the Mike Garcia Scholarship
The BSP gala is named for Mike Garcia, who worked his way through college as a janitor and served as SEIU-USWW president from 1988 to 2014. He led 40,000 janitors, security officers, and airport workers in the Justice for Janitors campaign. The Mike Garcia Scholarship was created when he retired in 2015. BSP awarded 38 students scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year. The amount of the scholarships varies depending on the amount raised through means such as the upcoming gala.
