The International Personnel Assessment Council (IPAC) has awarded their 2019 Innovations in Assessment Award to Derek Mracek, Eric Sydell, Isaac Thompson, and Nick Koenig of Shaker International for their work in AI-Powered Realistic Job Previews (RJPs). The team received their award at the IPAC 2019 Conference on July 16th in Minneapolis, MN. They later presented their ground-breaking work for the IPAC conference attendees.
The Innovations in Assessment Award “recognizes an individual or a work group for the development of an innovative personnel assessment tool, the use of an existing assessment tool in an innovative manner, or general innovations in assessment policies or procedures which resulted in improved effectiveness, efficiencies, or cost savings” (IPAC).
“Candidates at all job levels deserve an experience that allows their own assessment of personal fit before getting the job. High-fidelity RJPs provide a better candidate experience and are more predictive and fair but were not scalable for most companies due to scoring complexity. Our data and science team capitalized on recent advancements in machine learning and deep learning to automatically score simulation responses in a way that replicates expert judgement. This innovation gives companies the ability to leverage RJPs across industries and job levels to drive better hiring outcomes for a greater number of hires,” explained Eric Sydell, vice president of research and innovation at Shaker International.
The industrial-organizational (I/O) psychology scientific community has long quantified the power of high-fidelity RJPs, which provide more information per minute than almost any other method of assessment. However, they have generally been reserved for executive roles due to the difficulty of scoring, requiring a costly panel of experts to evaluate each one. By utilizing AI, candidates can now try out select roles, responding to the simulations in their own words. Responses are scored in less than a tenth of a second by a unique bias-free AI that replicates and scales expert judgement.
