CHICAGO, April 19, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- One hundred dignitaries from the media, business and finance areas, as well as influential Hispanic leaders, came to hear how a trio of Chicago-based entrepreneurs Olga Camargo, Juan Carlos Avila, and Patricia Mota are significantly helping Latinas grow their wealth and expand their financial knowledge through their SHENIX® app.
The creators recently held a successful launch this month to celebrate and promote their fintech web-based app that provides financial education, career planning and salary negotiation resources through a unique digital experience that prioritizes the Latina cultural mindset. The company's mission is to address the issue of the Latina pay gap and support Latinas in closing the wealth gap.
Organizations and publications address the issue of this pay gap. According to AAUW.org, Latina's Equal Pay Day is October 5 this year and cites a statistic saying that "Latina women working full-time, year-round are paid 57 cents and all earners (including part-time and seasonal) are paid 54 cents for every dollar paid to non-Hispanic white men."
An article from Changing America, a section from the political publication The Hill, it cited findings from the human and civil rights nonprofit called Justice for Migrant Woman. One example shows that "the average white, non-Hispanic male in the U.S. working full-time and part-time earns about $50,624 a year, according to an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data from Justice for Migrant Women. Meanwhile, the average amount of money a Latina makes in a year is just $25,312, according to the analysis."
At the event, guests listened as Camargo and Avila gave an overview of the app and two panels sharing insightful discussions about salary negotiation, the Latina pay gap, Latinas finding their worth, investment and retirement goals.
"The event delivered a better understanding of the career and financial education/resources available to Latinas through SHENIX®," Camargo said. "It also created a new space that allowed Latina leaders to speak candidly about issues pertaining to the pay/wealth divide, lack of financial education, and the systemic barriers that don't allow them to have a real opportunity to create a financial legacy."
Camargo and her team were pleased with the turnout and the positive commentary from guests.
"We had Latinas representing many industries which included those from the areas of construction architecture, fashion, insurance, financial services, corporate, executives, imports, and merchandise," she said. "Those Latinas who attended this event stated it was unique because the information provided was not readily available elsewhere. They also felt that SHENIX® embraced the Latinas' cultural mindset giving them a sense of belonging and empowerment. Many noted that SHENIX® could make a big difference for Latinas across the country."
The event sponsors were the following: NBC 5 Chicago, Faro Advisory, Atzimba Catering and Events, Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Negocios Now and Enriquez Produce, Inc.
