Siblings Day to Be Celebrated Worldwide and in U.S. on April 10, 2019
Founder Claudia Evart created Siblings Day 22 years ago to celebrate the special bond between siblings
NEW YORK, April 9, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Millions of siblings and their friends and their families are expected to celebrate Siblings Day worldwide on April 10, 2019. It and the Siblings Day Foundation were created by Claudia Evart, a native New Yorker, to honor and memorialize her only siblings, Alan and Lisette. This April 10 will be the 22nd anniversary of Siblings Day.
"We have had Mother's Day and Father's Day in the U.S. for more than 109 years. Now, at last, we are honoring our sisters and brothers," Evart points out. "Siblings Day is already recognized in 49 states by gubernatorial proclamations. Presidents Obama, Bush and Clinton also recognized the day by issuing a Presidential Message during their terms in office."
"All siblings should be appreciated, honored and celebrated on April 10 each year and have a day to call their own," says Evart. "Siblings Day can be celebrated by family members of all ages with hugs, cards, flowers, or special dinners. More and more countries, including Australia, Canada, Ghana, India, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Philippines, Nigeria, South Africa and Sweden, continue or have begun to celebrate Siblings Day (SD). We hope it will be a very popular topic on social and other media this year as it has been in the past decade. We consider it a very special day to develop, nurture and sustain the special bond between siblings."
"During the past year, we have updated several sectors of our web site—including the Timeline, Fact Sheet, and my bio," says Evart.
"We are looking for donors - individual or corporate - who will aid in the growth of current and future programs," Evart points out. "They include: Lost Sibling Registry, Sibling 2 Sibling Support Groups, Adopt-A-Sibling Program, and The Sibling Rights Project. We rely on the wonderful personal gifts of time and talent provided by individuals who volunteer their knowledge and skills to assist us in carrying out our projects and also rely on the generous support of private funders to further our mission."
The Siblings Day Foundation (SDF) is a nonprofit, tax-exempt, volunteer organization. Volunteers are very welcome to help out with SD/SDF activities. Over the years, Siblings Day has been celebrated with activities in the U.S. at the Bronx Zoo in New York City, the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, the Seattle Children's Museum, and at other children museums, as well as at universities and colleges. Several sibling support group nationwide sponsor annual events celebrating siblings with disabilities or special needs, seriously ill or separated in foster care. "These are siblings who may have a stronger bond due to their special and challenging relationships," Evart says.
Information about volunteering, donating and free Siblings Day e-cards can be found on http://www.siblingsday.org or obtained by sending emails to [email protected] or writing to SDF, P.O. Box 85 Grand Central Station, New York, NY 10163.
