CANTON, Mass., Feb. 12, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Winners of the annual Contractor Project of the Year competition were announced today by Sika Sarnafil, the worldwide market leader in thermoplastic roofing and waterproofing membranes. Winners were recognized for outstanding workmanship in five categories: Low Slope – New Construction, Low Slope – Re-Roofing, Steep Slope, Sustainability and Waterproofing for projects completed using a Sika thermoplastic membrane for roofing or waterproofing applications.

LOW SLOPE – NEW CONSTRUCTION CATEGORY WINNERS
Langer Roofing & Sheet Metal of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, took home first place in the Low Slope – New Construction category for installing a beautiful Sarnafil roof on the Fiserv Forum in downtown Milwaukee, home of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks. The second place winner in the New Construction category was Titan Roofing of Springfield, Massachusetts, for Springfield's MGM Casino, which was built on a three-block area of downtown where many structures had been damaged by a tornado in 2011. In third place for this grouping was Berwald Roofing & Sheet Metal of North St. Paul, Minnesota, for its terrific work on Allianz Field, a beautiful new stadium that will play host to Major League Soccer's Minnesota United FC beginning this year.
LOW SLOPE – RE-ROOFING CATEGORY WINNERS
In the Low Slope – Re-Roofing category, Oregon's Flynn BEC earned first-place honors thanks to its massive 484,000-square-foot installation of Sarnafil membrane on a truck manufacturing plant in Portland. Advanced Roofing of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, received a runner-up medal for its work on the Seacoast Towers Condominium in Miami Beach. Rounding out the Low Slope Re-Roofing category was Anning-Johnson Company of City of Industry, California, which completed a successful installation of Reflective Gray Sarnafil G 410 and S 327 membrane on Google's new office at the historic Spruce Goose Hangar in Los Angeles.
STEEP SLOPE CATEGORY WINNERS
Hartford South of Orlando, Florida, was awarded first place for its work on the beautiful new Mori Hosseini Student Union on the Daytona Beach campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The structure's iconic design features a roof that is comprised of convex radius at both the ridgeline and the eave, making installation difficult and laborious. BEST Contracting Services of Gardena, California, was the second place finisher for the exquisite Del Norte County Regional Airport in Crescent City, California. Ideal Building Solutions of Norcross, Georgia, was the third place finalist for its work on the busy Harriett G. Darnell Senior Facility in Atlanta.
SUSTAINABILITY CATEGORY WINNERS
Poly Vinyl Roofing of Mount Vernon, Iowa, grabbed first place in the Sustainability class for its superb work on the Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences, which is located on the campus of the University of Iowa in Iowa City. The company utilized Sarnafil S 327 membrane and the roof boasts sustainable features such as a green roof, solar panels and even a pair of bioswales that slow down and filter storm water runoff before it enters the sewer system. The second-place project was awarded to Tecta America MAGCO of Jessup, Maryland, for its impressive install and roof membrane recycling effort on the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Feeley, McAnespie, Inc., of Lowell, Massachusetts, took third place thanks to its work on 500 Kendall Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
WATERPROOFING CATEGORY WINNERS
In the Waterproofing Category, BEST Contracting Services earned another honor, this time a first-place finish, for its superb work on the Salesforce Transbay Transit Center in downtown San Francisco. This marvel of engineering boasts a city park on the roof level, along with a restaurant and cafe. The roof park features a fountain that sprays each time a bus enters the level below, a gondola that ferries visitors to the park from the Salesforce building next door, walking paths and seating areas. In second place was Tecta America Southeast of Sanford, Florida, for delivering a well-appointed, centrally located courtyard at the Urbana @ Hunter's Creek apartment complex in Orlando. Rounding out the top three for this grouping was Tecta America Zero Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, for its terrific work on a terrace roof at The Summit Hotel, also in Cincinnati.
In all, more than 40 projects from around the U.S. were submitted for evaluation in the 2018 Sika Sarnafil Project of the Year competition. First place winners were awarded cash prizes, recognition at an awards dinner at this week's International Roofing Expo and marketing support in the form or advertisements, social media and public relations.
