Susan McKenna, MSN, AGACNP-BC, is a board-certified nurse practitioner with 13 years in intensive care and hospital medicine. She has been doing aesthetic work since 2019 and now provides injectables at Simply Injectables while leading its GLP-1 weight-management program.
PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Simply Injectables RI, an aesthetic clinic in Providence's Wayland Square, has named Susan McKenna, MSN, AGACNP-BC, as an aesthetic injector and the lead provider for its GLP-1 weight management program. McKenna, an ANCC board-certified adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, treats patients with neurotoxins, dermal fillers and biostimulators.
McKenna spent most of her career in hospitals before moving into aesthetics. She started out at Saint Joseph's School of Nursing, earned her bachelor's in nursing from New England Institute of Technology and then worked seven years as an ICU nurse. After finishing her Master of Science in Nursing at Rhode Island College, she spent six years as a hospitalist at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. She picked up aesthetics part-time in 2019 and made it her full-time focus in 2025.
McKenna takes an anatomical approach to aesthetic medicine and believes good work should preserve what makes each face unique. She aims for subtle results that still make a visible difference, so patients leave looking refreshed and balanced rather than overdone.
"The ICU teaches you that small details matter, and that's how I approach weight loss medications," said McKenna. "I look at labs first, I see patients often, and I adjust doses based on how each person is doing, not on a chart."
On the weight management side, McKenna oversees each GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) patient's plan herself, including lab review, medication choice, dose adjustments and follow-up visits.
Patients typically check in monthly, and the program pairs semaglutide or tirzepatide with guidance on nutrition, exercise and daily habits.
"Weight loss medication isn't something you hand out and forget about," said Richard Kratzenberg, PA-C, founder of Simply Injectables RI. "Susan spent years managing hospital patients, and that's exactly the kind of experience I wanted running this program."
McKenna also handles day-to-day clinical oversight. When the team needs a physician's input, Medical Director Brendan J. Carolan, MD, is available for consultation at both the Providence and Denver locations. He's board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine.
McKenna speaks Portuguese and can consult with Portuguese-speaking patients in their own language. Her full bio is on the Simply Injectables team page.
