Singapore Government Selects CONSOR as Official Intellectual Property Valuation Firm
La Jolla, California (PRWEB) January 30, 2014 -- CONSOR Intellectual Asset Management has been selected to be one of three Intellectual Property (IP) valuation firms officially recommended by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) for its patent financing program. Chairman Weston Anson, Valuation and Analytics Director Jeff Anderson, and Financial Analyst David Noble will represent CONSOR in the IP valuations.
Singapore has recognized that IP is increasingly becoming a key driver of business performance and economic growth in the global knowledge-based economy, especially in Asia. The Singapore Ministry of Law created a committee to guide the country’s development as a Global IP Hub in the region – a trusted and neutral central point that will service the needs of local and international companies in IP, and that will support the development and growth of the larger IP landscape in Asia.
The IPOS is the statutory board that advises and administers the IP regime, promotes IP usage and builds the expertise to facilitate the development of an IP eco-system in Singapore. As part of their goals, the IPOS is encouraging companies incorporated in Singapore that have patents to use them as collateral to obtain financing. The program is being administered by IPOS’ Enterprise Development Department whose goal is to help companies better utilize their intangible assets and increase their competitive advantage.
In order to obtain financing, those companies must obtain a valuation of their patents which will be used as collateral. That’s where CONSOR comes into play. Once companies start the loan application process, CONSOR will conduct an IP valuation, which will then be presented to the financial institutions funding the loans. “Our role is extremely valuable in this financial process,” says Chairman Weston Anson, “because not only will it help companies get loans to finance growth, but will give a realistic indication of what their assets are worth and possibly expand their original vision of their company’s potential.”
The CONSOR team is extremely honored to be selected to be on the panel of valuers, along with American Appraisal Singapore, and Deloitte & Touche Financial Advisory Services. CONSOR considers their selection as an opportunity to be on the leading edge of IP valuation, as Singapore is quickly becoming known as the center of the IP industry.
