SITC Announces Special Anniversary Lifetime Achievement Award; Names Longtime Society Executive Director, Tara Withington, CAE, as Inaugural Recipient

The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) is pleased to announce Tara Withington, CAE, the society’s longtime executive director, as the inaugural recipient of a special anniversary Lifetime Achievement Award. To permanently honor her legacy, SITC also announces with great enthusiasm the official renaming of the Public Service Award to the Tara Withington Public Service Award.

“Tara represents the heart of SITC and of our cancer immunotherapy community,” said SITC President Mario Sznol, MD. “She molded the society with heart, a warm spirit, and, in the early days, grit.”

The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) is pleased to announce Tara Withington, CAE, the society’s longtime executive director, as the inaugural recipient of a special anniversary Lifetime Achievement Award. To permanently honor her legacy, SITC also announces with great enthusiasm the official renaming of the Public Service Award to the Tara Withington Public Service Award.

With over 20 years of service as SITC’s executive director, Withington has critically expanded the impact of the society beyond the scientific and clinical community to government, regulatory agencies, industry and, most importantly, patients. Implementing the vision of dozens of leaders’ year-after-year, her leadership created SITC as an integrated community of genuine thought leaders, in both challenging and prosperous times.

Withington is the visionary behind many of the society’s marquee initiatives and programs including, but not limited to, SITC’s connectED platform; Sparkathon program; the Certificate in Cancer Immunotherapy, Advances in Cancer Immunotherapy™ regional education program and the Primer as part of the society’s Annual Meeting offering.

Anniversary Awards are presented every five years and celebrate the extraordinary achievements of leaders in the cancer immunotherapy and tumor immunology field. It is without question that SITC celebrates 35 years of harnessing the immune system to transform cancer outcomes because of the tireless work put forth by many young investigators, luminaries, leading organizations, regulatory agencies and companies propel the field forward and build a solid foundation for future advances and soon, a cure.
