SITE Scholar Hannah Hoel Exhibits at SITE Santa Fe
Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) November 20, 2013 -- SITE Santa Fe’s SITE Scholar, Hannah Hoel, will exhibit her piece entitled "Site Web" at SITE Santa Fe on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 6:30pm to honor the incoming class of 2014 SITE Scholars.
"Site Web" is an installation of black yarn that will connect each attendee’s chair throughout the evening. Each person will sit for the duration of the brief ceremony, which welcomes the second class of SITE Scholars via talks and videos. "Site Web" is intended to confuse the medium by estranging it from its cozy place in sentimental gifting. A dk weight black yarn will weave arbitrarily throughout the folding chair legs, often obstructing pathways and ease of seating.
Hoel says, “I want to mirror the ceremony’s purpose of connecting the community but also demonstrate the struggle of collaboration and awkwardness of personal connections.”
Hannah Hoel has lived in London, New York, Paris, L.A., D.C., and Santa Fe. She has degrees in visual culture, philosophy, and fine arts. As an artist, she was selected for the initial group of SITE Santa Fe Scholars and her award-winning multi-media work has been included in traditional galleries, new media festivals, and shown internationally. Hoel writes on arts and culture for THE magazine, Adobe Airstream, The Santa Fean, and the Huffington Post.
The SITE Scholar Program is a new initiative to honor outstanding college and graduate level creative students in our community. Founded with the goal to increase student participation in the museum and contemporary art world, this program enables students to enrich their educational experience. Comprised of top students from The Santa Fe University of Art and Design, the University of New Mexico, the Institute of American Indian Arts, the Santa Fe Community College, St John’s College, and Highlands University, these nominated students are recognized by SITE Santa Fe as high achieving leaders within their schools.
