SJC Brooklyn Welcomes Criminal Justice Scholar Alex Vitale
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PRWEB) November 18, 2018 -- The Journalism and New Media Studies (JNM) department at SJC Brooklyn is pleased to announce that it will welcome noted scholar Alex Vitale to campus to discuss his new book, “The End of Policing,” in conversation with Ted Hamm, Ph.D., JNM chair, on Wednesday, November 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Tuohy Hall Student Lounge.
Recent years have seen an explosion of protest against police brutality and repression—among activists, journalists, and politicians, the conversation about how to respond and improve policing has focused on accountability, diversity, training, and community relations. Unfortunately, these reforms will not produce results, either alone or in combination. Drawing on groundbreaking research from across the world, and covering virtually every area in the increasingly broad range of police work, Vitale demonstrates how law enforcement has come to exacerbate the very problems it is supposed to solve.
The event is free and open to the public, and books will be available for purchase following the event. For more information, contact Michael Banach at 718.940.5584 or [email protected].
