FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 10, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Laurence Fishburne, established actor and philanthropist, will host an upcoming segment of the educational program "Information Matrix" that takes on the topic of Sleep Apnea and its causes. In this segment, a discussion will concern the rise in this diagnosis over the last decade, which in turn has stimulated vast amounts of research into the causes of sleep apnea.
Sleep Apnea is a condition that is potentially dangerous for those who are diagnosed. It occurs where a person's breathing actually starts and stops again while sleeping due to the airways being blocked. Many of those who snore loudly while sleeping, or find themselves tired after 7-8 hours of sleep are often candidates for the diagnosis. These are often the first signs of someone with the disorder. Because the breathing stops and starts again, those who are diagnosed often require a CPAP machine while they sleep to monitor their breathing. The segment will discuss the increase in the diagnosis over the years.
There are several causes of sleep apnea. The leading cause is obstructive sleep apnea that occurs when muscles in your throat relax while sleeping. When relaxed, these muscles block the airways or significantly narrow them, causing your brain to react and jolt you awake several times an hour in order to restart breathing. Another cause is the central sleep apnea, where the brain does not properly transmit signals for your breathing. This can cause those with the disorder to lose breath for several seconds and wake up to shortness of breath throughout the night. Both causes will limit the sleep of those diagnosed and require heavy monitoring.
Viewers can tune in to this segment of "Information Matrix" for information on this growing disorder, and to learn more about the new technologies and treatments being utilized to combat sleep apnea.
