SofTouch Dental Backs Surgeon General
Gilbert, AZ (PRWEB) April 28, 2014 -- A National Call to Action to Promote Oral Health issued by the Surgeon General alerted Americans to the importance of oral health in their daily lives. In a report titled Oral Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General, one of the themes and major findings concluded that:
The mouth reflects general health and well-being and oral diseases and conditions are associated with other health problems.
Dr. Jennifer Bailey, a mother and one of Gilbert, Arizona’s top dentists is concerned over the number of children that lack proper dental care. Her office, SofTouch Dental Care, is a leading advocate of dental health. For the past 8 years, employees of SofTouch Dental have traveled annually to local elementary schools to teach basics such as brushing and flossing to the young students. Nicknamed “brush-ins”, the idea is to make the event fun and informative for all involved. All students, their siblings, and their parents are offered free exams and discounted services as part of this ongoing program to promote education and complete oral health.
The social impact of oral diseases in children is substantial. More than 51 million school hours are lost each year to dental-related illness. Pain and suffering due to untreated diseases can lead to problems in eating, speaking, and attending to learning.
Adults should be more concerned as well. According to the same study, less than two-thirds of adults visited a dentist in the past 12 months. SofTouch Dental Care and Dr. Jennifer Bailey a leading Gilbert dentist, reminds us that there is a connection between oral health and overall health.
