SoftwareReviews has named Mimecast Secure Email Gateway, Barracuda Email Security Gateway, and Symantec Messaging Gateway the 2019 Email Security Gateway (ESG) Data Quadrant Award Winners according to their users.

SoftwareReviews, a division of world-class IT research and consulting firm Info-Tech Research Group Inc., has published its 2019 Email Security Gateway (ESG) Data Quadrant Awards, naming three gold medalists in the space:

  • Mimecast Secure Email Gateway
  • Barracuda Email Security Gateway
  • Symantec Messaging Gateway

Email security is as important today as it ever was. According to the 2019 APWG survey “Phishing that targeted Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and webmail services jump to 36 percent of all phishing attacks. That’s up significantly from 30 percent in 4Q 2018 and 20.1 percent in 3Q 2018. Phishing against the SaaS and webmail category became the biggest category of phishing.”

As explained by Michelle Tran, research specialist, security at Info-Tech Research Group, “Email has serious security and productivity issues that stem from its high usage and its function as a major connection point. Second only to web traffic in volume, email is a primary mode of communication for an organization to the outside world. Therefore, it is a logical necessity to secure this entry and exit point with an email security gateway. ESGs conserve the time of end users in their day-to-day activities, and prevent malicious software, phishing, and social engineering campaigns from infecting your organization.”
