SolTerra Breaks Ground for New Portland Headquarters
Portland, Oregon (PRWEB) May 26, 2015 -- SolTerra breaks ground this week for a new LEED Platinum-designed office building which will operate as the company’s Portland headquarters. The company is a fast-growing design+build firm focused on reconnecting people with nature. SolTerra creates some of the most sustainable, livable, and innovative mixed-use buildings in the Pacific Northwest.
“We are creating cost-effective work and living spaces for people who care about sustainability,” says Brian Heather, co-founder of SolTerra. “Our Portland headquarters will be one of the healthiest office environments in the city. SolTerra is demonstrating that renewable energy and sustainable construction are both feasible and beneficial to individuals and society alike,” he added.
The five-story headquarters at 9th and Division (2424 SE 9th Avenue) will include 35-thousand square feet of retail, office and warehouse space. It will be built on an interesting triangular-shaped lot near the river and the new Orange MAX line.
Highlighted elements include eco-friendly living walls, green roofs and solar awnings. Each SolTerra design incorporates a unique feature. This building features 6,000 square feet of green roof, with a large tree encapsulated by glass in the center of the building. The building plans to meet The 2030 Challenge, one of the most stringent energy efficiency standards.
SolTerra’s Portland headquarters is the first office building enrolled in Energy Trust of Oregon’s “Path to Net Zero” program, which support the entire design and construction process with enhanced cash incentives and technical assistance for Oregon’s highest-performing buildings.
“SolTerra is leading the market in the design and construction of their new headquarters,” said Margie Harris, executive director, Energy Trust. “By making solar a major component of the design and with plans to include many efficiency features, we’re expecting to see an innovative and thoughtful design that could well make SolTerra a standard bearer in Oregon’s net zero future.”
The SolTerra building is expected to be completed by early 2016 and SolTerra will occupy the top floors, with retail on the first level.
