Solterra Subacute Services Appoints New Regional Director of Culinary Services
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) February 01, 2015 -- The senior living specialists at Solterra Subacute Services have named a new Regional Director of Culinary Services, Marco Alcaraz. In his new position, Alcaraz will oversee the company's dining operations at all three of its locations.
Alcaraz previously worked as Director of Dining Services at Solterra's Chandler location for about three years. In his new position, which starts February 1, Alcaraz will be responsible for monitoring food quality and cost control, service levels and maintaining restaurant and dining regulations.
Alcaraz, who has worked in the food and fine dining industry for more than 30 years, says he has had a passion for cooking for as long as he can remember.
"I remember making donuts while back in high school," he says. "I just loved cooking and experimenting in the kitchen."
With his new job title, Alcaraz says he hopes to help improve the reputation that senior living communities' dining services have.
"The next generation to retire will be more well-traveled and more tech-savvy, and will be demanding better-quality dishes in a fine-dining atmosphere," he says. "Maybe I'll start a trend. Maybe in a few years other places will start hiring highly-qualified chefs with a primarily culinary background. I'd like to build the service levels and quality of food from within and create an atmosphere of fine dining, excellent service and high quality."
In addition to his main office at the Chandler location, Alcaraz will oversee dining at Solterra Senior Living at White Mountains in Lakeside and Solterra Subacute Services in Phoenix. Each of these senior living communities houses between 250 and 300 residents, and Alcaraz will oversee about 20 dining staff at each location. As Solterra continues to grow and establish more senior living residences, he will oversee those as well.
Alcaraz says he was happy to accept the promotion, as Solterra Subacute Services has been a good fit for his professional goals as a restaurateur.
"In the restaurant industry, every day is an adventure," he says. "As long as you take your time and have a vision and a company who supports your vision, then you’re good. And I believe Solterra supports that vision. The senior living industry is booming right now, and there are opportunities to do a lot of culinary work in senior living communities. Solterra is at the beginning stages and I feel I need to stay with them; they have a lot of potential and I’d like to join them in their coming successes."
